So first off, thank you to all my family and friends who made my birthday so special! It was a great day! This is just a quick update, and I will post more on this later. And I have a lot of posts coming up about the house! Get excited! ;P

small hands...smell like cabbage...

Last week there was a small carnival at the end of the street, so obviously Bryant and I decided to spend part of our Friday night "enjoying" the sights and smells. haha So here are a few photos from the fun night and oh so delicious funnel cake. Yum!

My favorite part of the night by far was while Bryant and I were standing in line to get a funnel cake, this little gem of a conversation happened.

Me: Do you need anything special to make funnel cakes?

Bryant: [In a very serious tone] Yes...carney hands.

Bwahahahahaha! I couldn't breathe, I was laughing so hard!

not lost in translation...

The Coppola family is no doubt an extremely talented family. I have always wanted to try Coppola wine and luckily we got a bottle of Sofia Riesling for a house warming gift from Bryant's family. Now normally I'm not a huge fan of Riesling, but this wine was delicious and we will definitely get it again!

So this post has absolutely nothing to do with the house. Katie, my friend that my sister and I use to live with, just had a beautiful bouncing [literaly] baby boy...well not just had him, but I just got the pleasure of meeting him.

 He has the biggest eyes that just make you melt.

fancy a shag [rug]...

Bryant and I both seemed to gravitate towards finishing the living room first. It wasn't something we actually talked about, it just kind of...happened. I guess it was because the housewarming party was coming up and we knew that would be on of the main hot spots. So we had the layout for the furniture picked out and had everything in place, but something was missing. We needed a rug. In so many mid century homes [or homes trying to recreate the retro feel] and photos we found had the sheepskin rugs, and neither of us were very crazy on that idea. I mentioned a shag rug, so we started looking at homes that used shag.

We both agreed that we liked that look, now the hard part. Trying to find one that was affordable. Not an easy task. Until one day one of my managers at work asked how the house was coming and I mentioned our dilemma. He directed us to Home Depot where him and his wife just purchased one. So off we went and came home with our new rug. I couldn't help but snap a photo or two of Bryant, he was so impressed at how soft it was. I was sure he was going to sleep on it that night. haha

If you have seen the movie "The Secret of Roan Inish" then that line probably sounds familar. I'm talkin to you Chesnut family! :D 

Anyway...so Grandmother and Grandfather just moved up from London to Lexington in the beginning of May, and I know everyone in the family agrees with me in saying that I am so excited about it! Their new house had 3 lonely flower boxes in the front, Rebecca and I decided they needed some love. So one afternoon before Grandmother and Grandfather moved up, Rebecca, Bryant, and I did a little gardening.

 

 This little guy helped me. :p

 Bryant was the only one who could reach the middle flower box.

 Even though the whole day was very fun, the best moment of the day was probably this:

 

When looking for the proper tool, Bryant couldn't think of what it was called. So he just acted it out! haha Rebecca and I definitely got a good laugh, and of course I made him take a picture like that with the tool he needeed in his other hand.

us vs. grout...

Like I mentioned before, Bryant and I decided to do what little work needed to be done in the half bath. We quickly learned that everything is not how it seems. haha I really wanted to clean the grout because it was looking really dingy and even black in some areas. Ew! So we got some grout cleaner and I got to scrubbin. However, after awhile of scrubbing with absolutely no results, I started getting really frustrated. So Bryant swooped in and scrubbed for awhile. But no dice. Bryant started to get frustrated as well, all that elbow grease for nothing!

He decided he would scrape up a little piece of grout to see how far down the grout was dirty. And what does he find? They used grey colored grout on the bathroom floor. No wonder we weren't getting anywhere! It was a relief and a pain all at the same time. [Physical pain for Bryant...he got sick because of the cleaners. :( ] We are trying to decide between regrouting the floor tile, but can't make a decision. Suggestions?

I believe this was our second or third batch of cleaner.

Bryant did try scrubbing the grout on the walls in the bathroom, and thank goodness they were done with white grout! They look great now!

half bath refresher...

About two weeks ago Bryant and I decided we were going to do a little work on the half bathroom attached to the master bedroom. We both loved it and it didn't need much work, so we figured we could go ahead and get one room checked off the list.

The main thing we wanted to do was paint. It was a taupe-y color that neither of us really liked, and since that bathroom is so small we wanted it to feel a little bigger and brighter. So we painted it the whitest of whites we could find. And WOW did it make a difference. The oh-so-cute green tile really pops now! 

We also removed an awkward cabinet from about the toilet. 

So Bryant was filling the holes from that.

I would like to mention that I do do some of the work! Bryant is the main model because I'm the one taking pictures! haha I swear I'm not working him to death.

let the celebration begin...

Yesterday was Bryant's 28th birthday. So our day went a little something like this...

  I got up early to make stuffed french toast with fresh off the vine strawberries before Bryant went to work. [Thanks to Bryant's mom and aunt!]

And how adorable is this little guy! I couldn't bare to eat him.

This is what Bryant saw when he came into the living room. The beginnings of a bar for the living room with a print hanging above it reading "a couple that drinks together, stays together."

Bryant has wanted some nice bourbon glasses for awhile, so I got these and a vintage decanter and had them engraved. The glasses say "His" and "Hers" and the decanter says "Ours". And of course I had to get a nice bottle of bourbon to fill the decanter. ;p

The bunting was actually Bryant's birthday card! Each of the flags had a little something written on the inside for him to read.

He was so cute when reading his card. :D

After he got his presents, we got ready and went out to eat at Onizim's as Bryant requested.

I think he had a good time...I know I did. :D

new neighbors...

I came home to have lunch with Bryant one day, and while sitting at the dining room table Bryant squealed. [A very manly squeal, obviously...haha] When I asked what was wrong he just pointed out the window. I turned around to look, but was a little confused because all I saw was my car sitting out front. He told me to just wait, so I did. And what came out from behind the car just a few seconds later...

Guaahh!! It was by far one of the cutest things I have ever seen! There were about 8-10 little baby ducklings waddling right on momma's heals. I love the neighborhood! haha

security...

First off, I feel that I should appologize for slacking off and not blogging. We both have been working more and have had a couple projects we have been working on. But that just means more blog post in the near furture. ;P

Now on to the blog...

The apartment we had was not in a bad neighborhood, however the people living in the apartments and surround apartments were a bit shady. Bloody fights in the hallway at  3:30 am...people having big mean dogs that they couldn't even control...the only security the apartment building offered being broken...the list goes on. On my last venture to the apartment, I felt it neccesary to snap these quick pictures.

The doors coming into the building has a "security" lock. Can you guess the code? 

*I'll give you a hint...its only one number, four times in a row. Take that Da Vinci!

My favorite part of this passive aggressive note is the "until/if" part. haha

Sooo...the apartment we just moved from, someone was shot there two nights ago. Wow. So glad to be out of there!

the quality goes in before the name goes on...

And they weren't kidding! That was Zenith's tagline from 1927-2001. I had mentioned before that Bryant and I got a new tv...well, not really new, but new to us. Downstairs, underneath some things, there was an awesome vintage Zenith television set. Not only was it absolutely amazing and fits perfectly with the mid century house, but it works! Bryant and I never really liked the idea of having a tv in the living, but that quickly changed after finding this gem. :D

house tour: the [unfinished] basement...

I must say it again...the unfinished basement. Shew...now that that's out of the way, let's continue. :D The previous owners had actually finished the basement, but because of the downpour that came last May, the basement flooded. [Along with just about everyone else's basement here in Lexington.] So everything got ripped out, making it now a [somewhat] clean slate.
