wow!

Yesterday a new friend named Katie introduced me to her sister's blog, Tart. Go check her and her adorable family out! As I started to go through the archives of posts and will definitely be following her blog! I was very impressed with this diy before and after. I love when people completely restyle something for a different purpose. I mean who thinks to turn a couch into a headboard?!

Before...

After...

I can't wait to start working on [and posting] our before and afters! Its so fun and exciting to give some old worn thing a new life.

Meet Bryant and Benny

Hey guys, Bryant here. For those of you who don't know me I'm Lucy's boyfriend. I promised Lucy I would help with the blog and so far I think I've been doing a really good job of encouraging her, but I don't think that's what she had in mind when I made that promise. I have been doing a bit better at helping with the hunt for furniture, which came surprisingly easy to me not to mention more fun than I thought after I started looking into it. Up until about a month ago I had never even heard of Danish modern, or mid-century modern furniture. After Lucy started talking about it and seeing pictures from her google and eBay searches my interest started to grow. Especially when it comes to Danish modern furniture. It seems I keep getting drawn in more and more by the sculpted teak and simple yet intriguing designs.

Having said that I found this Benny Linden Design chair from going to look at an unrelated item on craigslist. I really liked the shape of this chair and for the price I couldn't pass it up! It'll probably be receiving some fresh upholstery once we know where it's going. We'll be headed back next week to take a look at the rest of the seller's collection and maybe have a new addition to the house.

Wish us luck!

e is for eames...

Charles and Ray Eames really knew what they were doing when it came to making furniture. Their pieces were strong and timeless, not to mention absolutely beautiful. Although they contributed a lot to the furniture design world, there a few that stick out among the crowd. One of those is the Eames RAR [Rocker Armchair Rod] Rocker. I have read on multiple sites that the Eames' originally created this chair for an employee who just had a baby. It is the perfect rocker, and what nursery wouldn't look amazing with this inviting chair!
"Eventually, everything connects." -Charles Eames

I have been swooning over Eames chairs for awhile now and would love to have an original. I did pick up a look-a-like last year at Scout here in Lexington. [I know I blogged about them here as well, but it is one of my favorite stores!] I love my knock off Eames, but it does need a bit of a facelift. Once I get in the house she'll be getting a new set of [rocker] legs, good cleaning, maybe even a color change, and probably be a DIY post. Here is the chair I have now:
You can see the potential...right? The shape of my chair isn't quite as soft and rounded as the Eames chair. And the angles are a little harsh on mine, but I am 99% sure she will look completely different after I'm done with her and she is in her new home.

Oh and how cute is this print from etsy? Love it!

What's your favorite piece of furniture you would love to have?

life isn't always so black and white...

One of my first projects for the house is going to be the kitchen. I can't' tell you how excited I am that the oven and cooktop are original and still work...kinda. I say "kinda" because the previous owners of the house said that it didn't, but during the inspection the inspector said that it seemed to work! So I'll let you know how well it works when I move in and bake something. :P I'm pretty lucky though, the cabinets are in perfect condition and there are a lot. Well, at least a lot more than I am use to! So here is the kitchen now:

How cute is that oven?!

Sorry for the poor quality photos. They was taken with my phone and a very bright day.

And here is what I'm wanting to do with it:

This is my first mood board I have attempted to make. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it before to long. ;p

Redoing something the way you wanted it is a lot harder than I expected, and it hasn't even started yet. Even just getting the ideas on paper was tough! Especially for a girl like me who is extremely indecisive. Right now the floors are a [very ugly] linoleum tile. I have always loved black and white checkered flooring and its one of the first things that comes to mind when I think of a [so] mid century kitchen. But I was afraid of looking too gimmicky or something, although in my folder of inspiration kitchens almost all of them have the checkered floor and all look fabulous. haha Maybe when we pull up the linoleum there will be an awesome checkered floor. I would know it was meant to be at that point! [A girl can dream, can't she? haha]

We aren't going to do a whole lot to the kitchen, just some updates. The big things will be the floor and countertop, everything else will stay. The walls will get a fresh coat of robin egg blue paint, the cabinets will get stained a darker color and get new shiny hardware, and we will probably put a backsplash up in between the countertop and top cabinets. As far as appliances go, I would die over a Big Chill Fridge or a real [so] mid century fridge! A real house wife use to live here...no dishwasher. That's gonna change! haha I absolutely hate washing dishes. The Big Chill also has a super cute dishwasher or a dishwasher cover. [For those of you who already own a dishwasher but long for the retro look!]

Also, if anyone finds a light fixture like that let me know! I absolutely love it!
